Scuba diving in Jamaica

Bamboo

There are many great scuba diving destinations worldwide, but a big problem with many of them is that there is nothing for non-divers to do. If you are taking a family vacation and your partner or children do not dive, you know how guilty you can feel... while you are having fun, they are bored! This is where this Caribbean island is different. In Jamaica are many great diving sites with so much to see underwater, but there is also so much to do and see above water. In Jamaica, everyone can be happy!
Jamaica's north coast has a very diverse coral reef structure. Located on the edge of the Cayman Trench, incredible walls begin at 60 ft. and drop down to over 150ft. These walls are completely covered in a large variety of hard and soft corals. Beautiful elephant-ear, basket, tube, and rope sponge are found in beautiful colors of red, pink, yellow, and orange. In addition, watch for enormous trees of black coral. The walls here have many overhangs and ledges for you to explore. Watch for lobster, king crab, green and spotted moray eels, and a host of other marine creatures.

Snorkeling on Jamaican reefs

Bamboo

Snorkeling in Jamaica is both simple and exciting. Jamaica is regarded as a world leading destination for scuba diving and snorkeling, mostly because of the water clarity, year round warm water temperature and the island's shore proximity to pristine underwater reefs.
While snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea you'll marvel at the clear blue shimmering waters, colorful marine life and silvery schools of fish, maybe even a dolphin or two-all under a sparkling sun. No wonder the tropics are favored for snorkeling.
Due to the fact that around Jamaica the waters are not very deep the sunrays easily find their way to the seabed where they feed on the plentiful plankton.
A whole world of colorful fish turns Jamaican waters into one exotic aquarium with plenty of angelfish, yellow fin, the strawberry trooper and the parrotfish among others. The seabeds are covered with breathtaking sea anemones, sea cucumbers, and jellyfish. Snorkelers can also feast their eyes on friendly turtles, which seem to guide swimmers to new destinations underwater... There are also seemingly endless varieties of ray fishes moving gracefully and effortlessly. So, it's no surprise that scuba diving and snorkeling on Jamaican reefs are a vacationer's favorite pastime. The clear water, brilliant colors and white sandy beaches make this island a snorkeler's paradise.
