Negril is located on the western coast of Jamaica and was once a haven for hippies who visited these beautiful beaches. From its long white-sand beaches to its laid-back atmosphere, Negril is a perfect blend of true Jamaican culture and modernity, offering unforgettable all-inclusive vacations. While the city does not have a distinct center, it does have four main districts. Sheffield Road is the closest thing Negril has to a center; it's home to most of the city's local markets, restaurants, gas stations, and its police station. East of Sheffield Road are Coral Seas Plaza and Plaza de Negril - the city's main shopping district. South of Sheffield Road is Negril Square. Negril Square is where you'll find an overload of taxis and tour guides. North of Sheffield Road is Red Ground - the city's main residential district. And surrounding all this, are pristine white beaches that extend into the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
Today Negril is a respectable town with all-inclusive resorts dotted with luxury hotels. Negril's main attraction is it's seven-mile-long beach and it's laid back atmosphere. The majority of resorts and restaurants reside along Negril's long coast, stretching from Bloody Bay (named for the days when the whalers cleaned their catch there) to the Negril Lighthouse at the southern end.
Negril doesn't offer the extensive shopping that Ocho Rios does; however, tourists can find, not far away by the main beach resorts where are spent all-inclusive vacations, an assortment of unique shops including the Negril Craft Market.
Vacationers can experience here some of the best scuba diving and snorkeling in Jamaica, Caribbean Sea. The deep-sea fishing excursions are another favorite activity in this area. If you enjoy golf, Negril is home of one of Jamaica's newest golf course, Negril Hills.
Thrill-seeking tourists which want to leave the comfortable all-inclusive hotels can take a trip to Rick's Cafe. On top of being a prime spot for viewing the Negril sunset, it allows to the brave tourists to dive onto the turquoise waters of Caribbean Sea. Peoples who don't like scuba diving can watch divers from the cliffside.
Scuba diving and snorkeling are popular activities among tourists; they can also pay to take a trip into the sea in a glass-bottom boat. The brilliant tropical fish that can be viewed through the bottom of the boat make the experience well worth the expense.
