Jamaica, Caribbean Sea, hosts several annual deep-sea fishing tournaments, attracting world-wide fisher. The Port Antonio International Billfish Tournament, usually held in October, is one of the most celebrated and prestigious in the Caribbean. Each year this event attracts up to 50 boats, including fisher from the U.S.; other tournaments are held in Montego Bay, Falmouth, Discovery Bay and Treasure Beach.
Excellent charter boats can be booked for your deep-sea fishing vacation in Jamaica. When chartering a fishing boat, discuss specifics with the captain, because times and rates vary. Reserve a charter at least 24 hours in advance. Usually, you must supply the food and the drinks, but the boats may supply ice. Most boats expect at least a 50% deposit. If you decide to cancel, do so at least 24 hours in advance or you may lose your entire deposit!
Book your trip with the captain or crew members, not with bystanders on the dock! A half-day charter costs between $300-350 while a full-day usually costs between $600-750. In most cases, the charter boats keep 50% from the catch!
